Glenn's Blog: Boogie Nights Meets Goodfellas

The pickings are a little slim this weekend for movies. "Salt" featuring Angelina Jolie as a Russian spy is getting mostly decent reviews.  For the kids, there is Ramona and Beezus starring Disney channel star Selena Gomez. She turned 18 yesterday (so no more "Thought Police" for alot of dads)
I'm finally going to see "The Kids Are Alright" this weekend. The reviews and everyone I know that's seen it are raving.

I can't wait to see this movie! Variety calls it "Boogie Nights meets Goodfellas. It comes out August 12th.

Glenn's Blog: Inception Review

After several people told me "Inception" was one of the best movies they have ever seen I had to go see the film last night.
Note: As always, I will not spoil any plot points for you.

This is a movie you need to go into and not know what it is about. And after watching it you still might not know. At several points in the film, I was confused to the point of being frustrated but eventually Inception's quick cuts between multiple story lines made sense to me. Not everyone will have the patience to sit through it though.

At times the movie is absolutely brilliant and breath taking. Leonardo Dicaprio, Ellen Page and the entire cast are excellent! But while the film goes places I have never been before in a movie theatre, the action sequences many times lapsed into  the same cliched bullets and bombs we have seen many times before. This is a movie you will talk about with friends and analyze for many hours after you see it and I do highly suggest you see it on the big screen.
But I also highly recommend you lower your expectations. I give Inception 3 stars out of four but that could go higher when I see it again.

Glenn's Blog: Vacation Alert

Dave and I are off next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. I am especially pumped because two potentially great films open this weekend that I am going to see!
"Predators" and "the Kids are Allright" are getting terrific reviews from rottentomatos ( "T K A A" is being hailed as the movie of ther year)

I will review both films on Twitter while we are off. Join me at GMRCN.....

and I can't go 5 minutes without saying this...

LeBron James is a stupid d**khead!  I wish him and his two jackass friends Bosh and Wade nothing but misery for the next three years.

The gentleman filling in for me and Dave next week is Dennis McNamara. He's a real oldschool DJ from way back and a terrific guy. If you do that "radio" thing where you wonder what someone looks like I have the perfect comparison for you.
He looks EXACTLY like Gandolph from Lord of the Rings.

Smell you later.

Glenn's Blog: Time Off

It's a short week for us and than next week Dave and I are off next Monday,Tuesday and Wednesday.

The ampitheatre fireworks show Sunday was not as bad as we thought it would be. Originally our boss told us we would be entertaining the crowd from 6 to 7:30 until the show starts but we only went on stage a couple of times to do some giveaways.

Man it was hot! And I don't mean that in a Paris Hilton way. I mean in a sweaty balls way.We didn't even stay for the fireworks.

I also saw a movie this weekend but not in theatres. On the Independant Film Channel they debuted a Norweigan horror movie titled "Dead Snow."
It's a subtitled film about a group of medical students who go up in the mountains for a ski vacation at a log cabin and they are attacked by Nazi zombies.

My review......SKIP IT!

It is a B-O-M-B. It's not scary. It's not even that violent. It does have the grossest sex scene in movie history though but believe me you don't want to see it!

A fat guy has the runs, goes to the outhouse and in the middle of his discharging- his girlfriend comes in sits on his lap and they "do it"!!!!

I have never in my long history of watching zombie movies rooted harder for the undead.

Speaking of movies we have a treat on the show tommorow.

The greatest insults in movie history.
Here's a sneak peak.

Warning. Severe Potty Mouth video!

BTW- Don't forget to join me on Twitter. All caps    GMRCN

Glenn's Blog: Hot Tub Time Machine Review

I wanted to see the movie in theatres when it came out but by the time I had a chance it was gone. So when it came on ppv yesterday I immediatedly checked it out and for what it is I enjoyed it.

When Dave and I first heard about this film we hoped it would kind of be this generations Back to the Future trip.

When Micheal J Fox and Doc went back to the 1950's from 1985 it was comparable time wise to Hot Tub going from 2010 to 1986- but unfortunately thats where the comparison ends.

It's not that I had expectations that Hot Tub would be anything close to a classic that the Future movies were. That would be unfair.

Hot Tub stars John Cusack and Rob Cordrey and the basic premise is that they and two other friends go back to a ski resort where they partied in 1986. The place is now a rundown shell of what it once was when they were 19 years old. They get in a hot tub together and in a drunken haze get transported back to 1986 where they try to retrace all of the steps they did back than so they don't upset the space time continuum.

As far as the fashions, trends and everything else from the 1980's Hot Tub does a fantastic recreation. If you lived through the time period, or as I did came of age, there are multiple times you will say "Oh god I remember that! What were we thinking!!!" (It also has a great soundtrack from the 80's I have to buy)

But when they go back in time, everyone in that time period sees them as they looked when they were 19 years old which takes away half of the fun that you found in the Back to the Future movies.

Because everyone sees them as 19 years old again. Hot tub has no classic lines like when Martys mother called him Calvin because his underwear had a Calvin Klein label or people thought Marty was in the Coast Guard because of his vest or "hey buddy you're not getting a pepsi free you gotta pay for it."

Having said that Hot tub is a funny, breezy movie that is only an hour and a half and it's a trip I enjoyed taking. It fires off plenty of jokes and not all of them work but most do. It is also a very raunchy movie too so don't say I didn't warn you. Hot Tub is a soft 3 stars out of four.
