Glenn's Blog Thing

Blog-o-rama

If you are old enough you probably remember the SNL skit "Deep Thoughts With Jack Handy". Well....after several days off and catching up to my behind the scenes radio work it's time for another edition of "Scattered Thoughts with Glenn." Dave's band, The Jett Black Heart Attack, are one of the cover stories of the new edition of Good Times Magazine. They are on page 21 and it's a great article..... I know tv is a great big wastleland of crap, but there are a few gold nuggets underneath. If you enjoy a show that has riveting characters and amazing, unique storylines you have to check out "Dexter" on Showtime! I rarely RAVE about a tv show but it keeps getting better and BETTER every episode. I have Showtime on demand and I have blown through the first two SEASONS in less than 2 weeks!..... I know what you are thinking... "Hey Glenn, Deep Thoughts With Jack Handy  was FUNNY! Where's the yuks?" Sorry guys and gals, the creative juices are not flowing this morning. In the future I will pick my analogies better..... I am very surprised to see the upcoming movie "Zombieland" is getting terrific reviews. I am a big fan of Woody Harrelson but that is only because he is a huge advocate of legalizing a certain substance. Don't get me wrong. He's a wonderful actor that has been in some great movies and tv shows. Cheers, The Thin Red Line, White Men Can't Jump, Kingpin, The People Vs Larry Flynt. I never liked Natural Born Killers. I thought that was an overblown mess. I don't know what Oliver Stone was thinking with that one and he is- IMO -one of the greatest directors of all time. Anyway...Zombieland opens this Friday and I will have a review on the morning show on Monday. Since I couldn't be funny today why don't you just click here.

Three Day Weekend

Dave will be on the show Monday, but I've got one more day of vacation so I'll see you on Tuesday. It's not going to be much of a vacation day for me because my 6 and 8 year old will be off from school for the Jewish holiday. At least I get to sleep late! (and by "late" with my kids I am talking about 6:30 a.m.) Even though it wasn't reviewed by critics I am tempted to see the sci-fi movie "Pandorum" this weekend. Sometimes all I need in my horror movies is a spaceship, a man eating monster and a large astronaut buffet. Before you condemn my simplicity....everyone has thier guilty pleasures! Just look at the ratings the Lifetime network movies get. Every plot involves a hard working woman and a no good husband or boyfriend or some horrible illness or a combination of all three. That's got to be the easiest writing gig in Hollywood! I am also tempted to see the Bruce Willis movie Surrogates. It's about everybody having a robot double that does exactly everything they want and they don't have to leave the house. How great would that be!? Never leaving the comfort of home and getting everything done????? Although my wife would tell you I already have that in her! The reviews on Surrogates were split 50-50 but we got some great responses from listeners who won tickets to the sneak preview last night. I'll have some sort of movie review for you when I get back Tuesday. Later!

Conflicting Emotions

Hello from my Staycation! After I put the kids on their respective buses in the morning I have the entire house to myself until the late afternoon..... and for two days now I have been in that Tom Cruise Risky Business underwear mode. IT'S AWESOME! I called my wife at work yesterday around lunchtime and asked her, "Does it make me a bad person that I am so happy right now I feel like someone spiked my coffee with oxycotin?" Don't get me wrong..... I wouldn't want to have an empty home everyday, but I have never had so much fun just sitting around and doing nothing but some light reading, watching tv and playing videogames. Things I have "discovered" while on Staycation.....There are two shows I highly recommend. "Glee" on Fox and if you have Showtime On Demand "Dexter" is the most fascinating tv drama I have seen since in a while. I have watched the first 4 epiodes of the series and the quality is just getting better. "Glee" is not for everyone but man-O-man is it fun, tight, FUNNY, well written and has some OUTSTANDING musical numbers and dancing! Going to the movies....? I was hoping the movie "Jennnifers Body" would get good reviews but it did not. Why was I slightly surprised? Shame on me! I swear Meagen Fox is the most overrated/overexposed actress to come around in a long time. You know the sad part? Despite terrible reviews and many critics berating her thespian skills, the movie will make 20 million or more this weekend because of horny young guys. Meagen Fox is all giftwrapping with an empty box inside. I'll go see the Matt Damon movie instead. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9YqXNtQjqI I'm probably going to see it tonight cuz my wife warned me she wants to play Beatles Rockband tonight. She was named after the song "Michelle" and she grew up a huge fan of the Fab 4. She plays the singing part and my marraige vows said nothing about listening to the sound of a cat in heat for two hours. Sports: What a weekend of football! My picks are the Patriots 24 Jets 20 and the Giants losing to the Cowboys 27-23. (I hope I am 0 for 2 on Monday) One last note. I recieved an email the other day that amused me. It read: "This just in. Kanye West interupted Patrick Swayzes funeral to tell everyone Micheal Jacksons funeral was better." Thank you to Rose for that one. I'll have a review of thew Matt Damon movie on the blog tommorow or Sunday.

The Itinerary

So I will be taking a vacation from Wednesday the 16th until Tuesday the 22nd. Than Dave and I will both be back on the air Wednesday morning. We will have a special guest in the studio. Roger Earl from Foghat will be in the house!   I talked to Dave yesterday very briefly. We try not to talk too much on vacation because we eventually wind up discussing work (and who wants to talk about your job when you are trying to relax!?) But everyone is doing great in the Dave household and me and my wife might visit little baby Drew this weekend. (While the woman are cooing over the baby Dave and I can kick some WW2 ass on Xbox!) Once again, I will not be doing ANYTHING on my vacaction.....and LOVING IT! The only thing I have to do is get my kids ready for school and shove, I mean "put" them on the bus. The only hard part will be combing my 8 year old daughters hair in the morning. With every single stroke she screams like Janet Leigh in the movie Psycho..... I am picking up Beatles Rock Band today videogame today and I will blog about the game and a few other things while I am on my "staycation." Note: It's kind of a split vacation for me. I will return to RCN on Saturday afternoon from 12 to 5 but otherwise I hope to see you all back next Wednesday! TTFN.

Celebrities Acting Badly

This Kanye West thing REALLY bothers me. Who the F%#$ does he think he is?! In case you missed the story<Snip/but was overshadowed by an outburst by rapper Kanye West, who interrupted an acceptance speech by U.S. singer Taylor Swift. West, who is known for his outspoken ways, jumped up on stage while the 19-year-old Swift was making an acceptance speech for best female video for her hit song "You Belong With Me," beating out singers including Beyonce Knowles and Lady Gaga."I am really happy for you," West said. "But Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time."
MTV said West, who was spotted earlier on the red carpet drinking alcohol, was ejected from an awards show already known for its circus-like atmosphere. West received loud boos from the crowd when his name was mentioned later in the show. snip>

Here's the video. (At least until the Youtube gestapos remove it)
Beyonce actually saved the day when she won an award later in the show. She brought Taylor Swift onstage to let her finish her acceptance speech!
Classy lady..... As for Kanye, I didn't even know who he was until he spoke out after Hurricane Katrina wiped an entire city off of the map and our government screwed up so badly. I actually was happy he called out the president on live television. Although I could not even tell you one song he ever sang (rapped?) I liked him.
When he famously said, "George Bush hates black people" I thought he was a guy with guts and that he was a caring man.
Now I think he is the racist. I think Kanye hates white people.
Of course I don't know that for sure but I do know this. If a young, black teenage woman won an award for the first time and a white guy walked onstage and basically told her she didn't deserve to win his career would be over..........
And I can't end without noting that Serena Williams bad behaivour at the US Open actually made me
like her a little bit.
While I always greatly admired her athletic skills, she reminded me of that old Austin Powers scene. "She's a man BABY!!!"
Yeah.... I know. ....That's sexist.
Here is the clip of Serena Williams losing it.
I have said for years now that tennis is not like it was when I grew up and I can't watch it anymore. I loved the old days of villains and heros in the sport. John McEnroe, Bjorn Borg, Jimmy Conners, Martina, Chrissy, ect. It made the sport fun because you had a REAL rooting interest. Nowadays they all seem like they are cookie cutter clones.
It's not like I condone such bad sportsmanship. It's just that in a room full of boring tennis stars and in a sport that only rich, snobby people can afford to buy a ticket to...... it's nice once in a while when someone in that stuffy room"throws a pie".

Babies

I have a "Dave" update for you. On Wednesday, Dave brought home his wife and newborn baby girl. here's a picture of little Drew Elizabeth. Drew Elizabeth   Isn't she adorable! Dave and MIchelle are very lucky. Most newborns-let's be honest-are UGLY! When my beautiful baby boy Owen was born my first reaction was, "AHHHHHHHHHHHH!" But in front of my wife, who was in painful labor for several hours, what came out of my mouth was not a scream but, "He's beautiful!" If that scream actually came out of my mouth my wife would have ripped off my privates. BTW-I don't want to pay for therapy when Owen is older so let me just state for the record he is now a handsome young kid. Dave will be back on the show two weeks from today (Thursday). I will be off for a week starting next Thursday. Captain Kevin will be joining me in the morning because after his "walkon" today we had way too much fun! In other non baby stuff..... I have to applaud American Idol for hiring Ellen Degenerus as a judge. I got fed up with the show last year when one of the contestants who made it to Hollywood was a woman who made two albums and appeared on a tv show. I stopped watching it at that point for the first time in years because it took the "amatuer" factor out of the competition. But they have me back now. It was a brilliant move. It deserves a Blazing saddles "Harrumph!" Football season starts tonight but if you own the videogame John Madden 10- football season started weeks ago. What an amazing game! I never did an official review on the show so I am telling you now. It is a 9 out of 10...... Okay I'm done for now. Tune in to tommorows show for Weekend Movie Preview. I got a little surprise for you.....

OKAY...I am back.

As you probably know by now, Dave and Michelle had thier baby on Labor Day morning.
The kids already got a great sense of humor. The baby has been "ready to go" for 8 weeks and comes out on "Labor Day"!?
I am hoping to put a picture up on tommorows blog so make sure you check back! I was SOOOOOOO sick yesterday I missed the show and Dave's tales of the delivery. Bummer. I was literally puking like that scene in Family Guy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eYSpIz2FjU I have alot of work to catch up on so I can't do much blog stuff today. I will have much more tommorow.

Three Days and Eight Months

For a majority of people we are going into a three day vacation. For many parents we are going into an 8 month mini vacation because school starts again on Monday!!!!Every time this moment of the calender arrives I marvel at the evolution of getting older. As kids, we hated seeing those "Back to School" commercials during summer vacation. When you are a parent with school age children those ads are an exciting light at the end of a loooooong tunnel.....
The morning show will be back on Tuesday but don't expect any great tales of barbeques, traveling, parties or celebrating from me. The only time I am leaving my "mancave" is to see a couple of movies I will review on Monday. There will be one mainstream film and one "arty-farty" film I'll tell you about..... BTW-If you didn't hear our Weekend Movie Preview this morning and you are into romantic comedies DO NOT SEE the Sandra Bullock movie that opened today (Friday). I have never seen a 0 % rating at Rotten Tomatoes before but her new movie "All About Steve" did it. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/all_about_steve/ Check out some of these reviews!

This is easily the single worst film that Sandra Bullock has been involved with and bear in mind, I have seen "Speed 2."Easily the worst movie of the week, month, year, and Bullock’s entire career. It is to comedy what leprosy once was to the island of Molokai: a plague best contemplated from many miles away.
A romantic comedy so lunkheaded and ill-conceived that it makes your average, idiotic Kate Hudson-Matthew McConaughey outing look like the reincarnation of Hepburn and Grant. My biggest surprise is scanning the credits and not seeing the name Wayans or Prinze Jr. anywhere. Not just dumb, it's dopey, moronic, doltish, obtuse and thick. "All About Steve" is really just a series of episodes strung together, with loud, obvious pop songs braying on the soundtrack. It also features the singular most awful line of dialogue in a movie this year - when Mary responds to an imaginary question as to why she always wears those red boots it is because 'they make my toes feel like ten happy friends on a camping trip.'

And on that note I wish you all a very happy Labor Day weekend! Drive safe and have a great time. I'll throw in a weekend blog too on Sunday. Later!

Delusional

On the cover of todays NY Post the hooker who brought down Elliot Spitzer, Ashley Dupree, has a message for the woman who look down upon her and judge. She says, "You are no better than me!" Dupree says quote, "most girls, to varying degrees, want to be pampered and have nice shoes, designer handbags and gorgeous clothes. Woman target guys with money and use them to get these things. They toy with them, flirt, go on dates, have sex and than drop hints about a new dress...or being short on rent money-and the guys deliver it." She goes on to say most woman are in dishonest relationships. Wow.... What a delusional little Ho! So that's the way you rationalize it to yourself Ashley? Does that make you feel better about yourself? You sell your used car of a body to men for shoes, rent money and other gifts and everyone is the same as you? Why don't you take a trip on the Long Island railroad in the morning Monday through Friday and see the thousands of woman who actually do work that does not involve lying to men and than lying on your back! You will see woman who drop thier kids off at daycare when the sun comes up in the morning and don't see thier children until the sun sets. Woman who work thier asses off instead of wiggling thier asses in front of rich men. And you are not only delusional you are stupid! This filthy little pig is trying to break into the music business and has even recorded her first song. So what does Ass-ley think is the best way to get people to spend money to hear her warbling on a cassingle?.... Pissing off men and woman! Nice job Ho. In closing I can say one nice thing about her. There is no doubt she is a good looking woman. But there is an old saying that applies perfectly for little Ass-ley..... "No matter how well you gift wrap a turd, it's still a turd."

Pictures and Movies

Dave and his wife go for thier final sonogram today. He was telling me that whenever he goes to the gyno he is amazed because no matter what day or time it is, the large waiting room is ALWAYS packed with pregnant woman. He also noticed that every guy in the office sits with his hand on his head wearing that "get me out of here" look. I am six years removed from my last "forced march" to the stirrup doctor and although I love my kids more than anything in the world I never want to go back again. My wife hints once a year that she wants one more kid and I always have the same answer for her. I say, "I still have not recovered from your last pregnancy. If you want another kid I will adopt"....(preferrably a 17 year old Russian bride.) ..........Hollywood set a new record for selling tickets to the summer movie season. They made four point one BILLION dollars! While I admit there have been quite a few really good movies this year it was not a record breaking summer for quality. The inflated numbers are because the main ticket buyers are young. 70% of movie tickets are bought by 15 to 25 year olds. And with that age bracket you don't need to make a good movie to make 100 million dollars on a film. You don't even need a good story or even a plot! All you need to do is put Vin Diesel in a car race (surrounded by scantily clad nymphos) or have Meagen Fox running around half dressed for 2 hours in front of a blue screen. Sigh.....
